Family Tree Books

A Family Tree Book can be one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself or a family member. While there are several ways to assemble a book, many people find that a 3-ring binder serves well in that you can easily add to it as your family grows and changes and it can be copied for others.

Your book will include a Table of Contents in the front and a Name Index that includes the page number(s) where your ancestors can be found. Pedigree Charts include an easy numbering system so you can track the connection of distant ancestors to the Home Person (typically that would be you).

You choose the cover design and the contents. Some people like to include everything while others only want certain records - or you may choose to include all records on one person and no records on the others. The slide show below offers a brief glimpse of what you'll see as you flip through the pages of your Family Tree Book.

In order to create a Family Tree Chart or Book, your family tree must first be in a GEDCOM file. A GEDCOM file is the industry standard for family tree formatting and is used in programs such as Ancestry, My Heritage, Legacy, Family Tree Maker, and others.

If you already have your tree in a GEDCOM file you can send it as an email attachment to:
If you have a tree on Ancestry and do not know how to save it as a GEDCOM file, or want more information about what a GEDCOM file is, this short
video provides information along with step-by-step instructions. If your family tree is on a different website or on a software program, you'll want to download or export the tree to your hard drive.

If you do not have a family tree file then one will need to be created in order to generate Charts or Books. Learn more about that

Records may include:
